Jon Armstrong claimed an impressive sixth overall and first in class in the recent Fivemiletown Spring Rally as he continues his preparations for the British Rally Championship.
The Teenager continues to impress in the early stages of his rallying development, and the Fiesta driver dominated class five to win by over two minutes.
He finished ahead of the experienced Adrian Hetherington, and posted second fastest overall time on the penultimate stage.
His sixth overall finish was hailed by many as the drive of the rally, and Jon himself was delighted with how the event went, having made some changes to the car since his last outing. "It was a crazy result when you look at some of the big names that entered it. It was definitely a good run," he said. "I'm happy with the car now. We made a good few changes because she was too hard when we had her down in Limerick. We got a good set up for Fivemiletown and it improved the car and it worked very well. Its like day and night compared to Limerick."
Jon's next event will be Round One of the British Rally Championship, the notoriously fast and wide stages of Rally North Wales. No doubt this will be Jon's biggest challenge to date but he is optimistic " I am very excited for the event, we are putting together the deal in the next few weeks to compete on the rally and hopefully we will pull it off and be in attendance. We competed on the event last year but didn't get as far as we hoped, but I still have some knowledge of the stages which is good".
Jon will be navigated again by experienced Co-Driver Martin Brady. " Its a privilege to have Martin next to me" said Jon. " He has so much experience and the skills he posses as a Co-Driver are exceptional so if we can combine our skills and keep a cool head we should do well on round one.
The rally kicks off on the 6th of April, Keep update with Jon on here, twitter and facebook throughout the rally.
