Jon win's Colin McRae Flat Out Trophy(April 09, 2015)
It was a great honour and delight that Hollie McRae, daughter of Colin, presented Jon Armstrong with the Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy on the Circuit of Ireland Rally.
Together with the ERC Sporting Manager Jean-Pierre Nicolas, Hollie announced the winner at the finish of round three of FIA European Rally Championship.
Armstrong led the ERC Junior category by 33.4 seconds overnight in his Peugeot 208 R2, but the Northern Ireland driver received a five minute penalty for missing the tyre marking control as he left Friday morning’s first service.
“The Colin McRae ERC Flat Out Trophy is a very special award to me, because Colin was a great idol of mine. All I remember growing up was Colin McRae and thinking he was the best driver in the world and wanting to be like him. To receive this award is very very special to me and I’m very grateful to get it.
“I think our pace on day one in Ireland showed how quick we can be, and unfortunately we couldn’t pull it all together this weekend – but maybe in the future we can get our first ERC win.”
